I have two favorite drugstore foundations—one for dry/combination skin and the other is matte, which is what I reach for most of the time.
However, the past few weeks it’s been so cold outside that my heat is cranked up in the house, work, the car—you name it. The heat teamed up with my Retin A is definitely taking a toll on my skin. So with that, I’ve been using the Maybelline Fit Me Foundation (Dewy and Smooth) and have ZERO complaints! I use my It Cosmetics brush to apply (I’ve talked this magic brush before) and I can’t tell any difference between this one and the Armani Silk Foundation. It lasts all day and doesn’t break up on my nose at all—which is where I’m the oiliest. This never looks cakey, and I’m pleased with how it softly covers my redness. It also contains SPF which I appreciate. I bought mine at Kroger for $6.50, so I assume it’s available at any drugstore for around the same price. For $6 give it a try! I’m Ivory #115 in this one.
The L’Oréal Infallible Matte is a great drugstore foundation also. I wore this A LOT last summer and never tired of it. Again, I use the same It Cosmetics brush to apply this and it also looks soft on the skin, but still covers my redness. Matte foundations can sometimes start looking weird as the day goes on, but this one doesn’t get overly dry or flaky on my skin. If you do like more of a dewy finish, pass on this one and go with the first one. This does dry down to a matte finish and does not contain sunscreen, so you’ll have to layer! I’m just plain old Ivory in this one also.
